Kennewick General Hospital will present its fall event at the Columbia Center Mall on September 14, 2013. "Step into Wellness" will kick off with a 8am morning Coffee Run (and walk) following a two-mile course around the Mall perimeter concluding with a free Dutch Brothers beverage (limited, kid-friendly menu) for finishers. Registration for the run/walk is open online at KGH Coffee Run; onsite registration on the day of the race will be open at 7am.
The main draw will be a free tour of a giant inflated human body. The MEGA BODY Exhibit will open at 10am to the public following a VIP tour to registered Coffee Run finishers. The 50-foot MEGA BODY features 25 informative stations with visual and descriptive tools designed to educate about the human body's parts and systems. Healthy functioning is depicted, along with preventive measures to help avoid common diseases. With an emphasis on healthy living, children will learn that the choices they make at an early age can have a huge effect on their well-being-today and in the future. The MEGA BODY appeals to all ages; information is written at a second grade reading comprehension level, but provides interesting facts that appeal to older children.
Local author and KGH registered nurse, Judy Folk, will read and sign copies of her children's book "Happy Go Lucky" during three events held at Barnes & Noble at 9am, 9:45 am, and 10:30am. The story is a short, heart-warming tale about dachshund named Lucky, whose hind legs are paralyzed in an accident. His caring canine pals surprise him with a customized cart that gives him new mobility and lifts his spirits. As one of the Nosey Parkers Club books, the story promotes positive, hopeful attitudes, and they encourage children's appreciation of books and their love for reading.
Three prize drawings will be offered for the day's 18 year old and older event participants including a full spa day, a one-year family membership to the Tri-City Court Club, and a $500 Simon gift card. Eligible race participants will receive two entries and MEGA BODY tourists will receive one entry. A non-perishable food donation for 2nd Harvest will give eligible participants one additional entry for a total of four possible entries into their choice of the three drawings.
