Trios Health expands Heart Care services with interventional cardiology

Trios Health has expanded its capabilities to diagnose and treat heart and blood vessel conditions via cardiac catheterization. Commonly known as interventional cardiology, the specialty offers an alternative to invasive surgical procedures and helps address an array of emergent cardiac and related medical conditions. Yunus Moosa, MD, a member of the Trios Health Medical Staff, is leading the program, which provides round the clock services at the hospital located at 900 S. Auburn Street in Kennewick.

“Adding emergent interventional cardiology to our portfolio of heart care services was a natural progression as we have seen the increase in demand for these kinds of services in the community,” said Glen Marshall, chief executive officer. “Now our patients can remain in the Tri-Cities for expert interventional services while accessing the full range of what we offer in cardiac care.

“With our state-of-the-art catheterization lab, a patient presenting with chest pain in our emergency department, day or night, can be assured that the team is ready to care for their needs,” Marshall said.

Interventional cardiology, a sub-specialty of general cardiology, relies on the use of catheters—thin, flexible tubes—or stents, wires, or other very small devices guided through tiny punctures in the skin to access blood vessels for diagnostic tests or to repair damaged vessels or other heart structures. Trios Health’s team can complete balloon angioplasty and stent procedures to mechanically widen narrowed or obstructed arteries.

Trios Health was recently named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures—one including for Heart Failure Care—by the Joint Commission in its 2013 report “Improving America’s Hospitals. The distinction puts the hospital among the 1,099 of the nation’s leading hospitals earning top marks and among only 10 in Washington State.

Diagnostic and interventional procedures available at Trios include: abdominal aortogram; coronary angioplasty and stenting; cardioversion; dialysis graft intervention; loop recorder implantation; pacemaker insertion; peripheral angiograms; peripheral angioplasty and intervention, including athrectomy; transesophageal echocardiograms; and, venous disease intervention.

Trios Health Heart Care services also include an Emergency Department complete with Chest Pain Center Accreditation; General Cardiology; Cardiac Rehabilitation; Home Health Care; Medical Nutrition Therapy; and Community Education.
