2022 Camp Trios Registration Now Open
April 26, 2022
Trios Health is pleased to share that registration is now open for Camp Trios, a three-day summer camp program for children diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
Registration is open for children aged 6-14 and mentors aged 15-18. The goal of the three-day camp, the first of its kind in the Tri-Cities is to teach the children about their diagnosis and provide them with tools for managing it in a way that does not limit their daily lives.
“Often we see kids who have been newly diagnosed and they aren’t sure about what they can and can’t do, and we take this time to show them that they can live very normal lives,” said Christy Kuhn, Trios Health Diabetes and Nutrition Education Director. “When they see all these others kids running, playing, eating, and doing all the stuff they want to do, it makes them see that it is possible.”
The three-day camp is scheduled July 19-21 this year from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day at the Southridge Sports Complex. Camp Trios features educational activities, healthy meals and snacks, and physical activities. Trained physicians and other healthcare providers will be on site with campers at all times.
Trios Health will follow the CDC guidance for day camps during Camp Trios and will communicate that guidance to parents and guardians prior to the camp.
Camp Trios was originally started in 2012 as Camp KGH and has grown since its inception from about 20 participants to more than 50. More information, and registration links in English and Spanish, can be found at TriosHealth.org/Camp-Trios.
