2025 Camp Trios Registration Now Open
June 3, 2025

Camp Trios, a three-day summer camp program for children diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, is scheduled July 15-17, 2025, at the Southridge Sports Complex.
Registration is open for children aged 6-14 and mentors aged 15-18. The goal of the three-day camp, the first of its kind in the Tri-Cities, is to teach the children about their diagnosis and provide them with tools for managing it in a way that does not limit their daily lives.
At Trios Health, supporting children who are newly diagnosed with diabetes goes beyond medical care- it’s about helping them reclaim a sense of normalcy. According to Trios’ Director of Diabetes and Nutrition Education, many of these children initially feel overwhelmed and unsure of what they can or cannot do. There is often a sense of fear or limitation that comes with a new diagnosis. That’s why Trios places a strong emphasis on education and peer support in those critical early days.
“One of the most powerful things we can do,” Christy Kuhn, Trios Health Diabetes and Nutrition Education Director said, “is surround them with other kids who are living with diabetes and thriving. Whether it’s seeing others run around, enjoy meals, or just be carefree, the experience helps newly diagnosed children realize that diabetes doesn’t have to hold them back. It becomes a turning point- when they stop viewing their condition as a barrier and start seeing the possibilities of living a full, active life.”
The three-day camp is scheduled July 15-17 this year from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day at the Southridge Sports Complex. Camp Trios features educational activities, healthy meals and snacks, and physical activities. Trained physicians and other healthcare providers will be on site with campers at all times.
Camp Trios originally started in 2012 as Camp KGH and has grown since its inception from about 20 participants to more than 50. More information, and registration links in English and Spanish, can be found at https://www.trioshealth.org/camp-trios
This education — provided in a positive, engaging environment — is intended to help decrease instances of acute health issues and long-term diabetes complications. At camp, participants build relationships with peers with similar health situations, learn how to manage their diabetes, and interact closely with mentors and volunteers who can relate to their experiences and offer advice — all while having fun.
Camp Trios is backed by generous donations from local businesses, corporations, community organizations and community members. Camp Trios partners with the City of Kennewick for the use of the Southridge Sports and Events complex, and Trios Health Medical Staff provides financial support for transportation, food, and activities. Trios staff and community members donate their time.
