Trios Hospital Achieves Highest Stroke Care Recognition

Trios Health has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award.

The award, the program’s highest honor, recognizes that Trios Southridge Hospital has reached an aggressive goal of treating stroke patients with 85 percent or higher compliance to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for 24 consecutive months or more. In addition, Gold Plus hospitals must demonstrate 75 percent compliance to five out of ten stroke quality measures during the 24-month period.

Trios Southridge Hospital was added to the Target: Stroke Honor Roll for the second consecutive year, a recognition given for those delivering the fastest quality service for stroke patients. The Hospital was among those that achieved “Time to Intravenous Thrombolytic Therapy” in 60 minutes (or less) for 66% percent of applicable acute ischemic stroke patients. Research has shown that fast and high quality treatment of stroke improves patient outcomes.

The prescribed quality Guidelines are designed to help provide hospital teams with the most up-to-date, evidence-based measures with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. They focus on appropriate use of guideline-based care for stroke patients, including aggressive use of medications such as clot-busting and anti-clotting drugs, blood thinners, and cholesterol-reducing drugs; preventive action for deep vein thrombosis; and smoking cessation counseling.

Trios Health has remained steadfastly focused on enhancing its stroke-related services, including service line enhancements, teamwork and drills with hospital-based physicians and nursing staff, as well as the deployment of a robot that quickly connects its emergency department with regional stroke experts in Spokane for additional consultation and treatment planning.

According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is the number five cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the United States. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds; someone dies of a stroke every four minutes; and 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.
